Martigues is an excellent compromise between city, farms, scrubland and the sea. It is nicknamed the «Venice of Provence» because of its canals, bridges and charmingly colorful buildings. Its many marinas (1,600 slots) and dry ports (1,400 slots) will win over boating enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the beaches and inlets of the Côte Bleue will delight anyone who loves the sea and water sports.

Istres, on the banks of the Étang de l’Olivier, is a large body of water with shore improvements located at the midpoint between Aix and Marseille. Istres is a dynamic city with many sports facilities and a thriving cultural scene.

Head to Gignac-la-Nerthe! Surrounded by the Nerthe massifs, this small town is 10 minutes from the sea (Calanque of Niolon) and a stone’s throw from the Marseille-Provence international airport and the Aix TGV high speed train station.

Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts lies between Étang de Berre and the seaside. This lovely 14th century walled village surrounded by farms is a straight shot to Marseille or Aix via the highway (45 km).

The small seaside resort towns of the Côte Bleue will win your heart! Sausset-les-Pins, Carry-le-Rouet and Ensuès-la-Redonne have gorgeous coastlines, punctuated by beaches and inlets.

Thanks to local and national highways, they are just 30 minutes from the Marseille-Provence international airport, plus downtown Marseille can be reached by train in 30 minutes. These cities also have vibrant cultural and sports associations.

The Martigues General Hospital has 510 beds, a heliport, full technical services and an emergency medicine department. There is also a private clinic in Martigues with 92 beds and a 170-bed private facility in Istres. These cities have many specialized medical centers.

Finally, the second-largest medical hub in France – the hospitals in Aix-en-Provence (762 beds) and Marseille (3,400 beds) – is quite close and offers some of the best healthcare services in the country.
